Getting to Bitter...

So this is the generally called the beginning...

A couple of things you should know starting off:
1.) I tend to ramble but not long.
2.) I'm not good at research but this will attest to my level of grit

That's really about it.  I am writing a fictional story of how a modern day woman becomes the "Wicked Witch"/"Evil Step-Mother" that you find in just about every fairy-tale with a female antagonist. Yes, I know it's kind of been done before.  Wicked is still fairly popular although I really felt Oz - The Great and Powerful dropped the ball big time.  I like those delves into personality changes but it surprises me how much those ideas are alive and well in this day and age.  If a woman is unmarried/widowed and angry - she is bestowed with the title of "Evil" or more commonly "Bitter" which is 2nd cousin to "Angry".  Whether or not it's true is not what I'm interested in.  I'm more exploring how it happens.  And it happens more often than we think. 

This blog will chronicle my writing journey and how well I stay at it and what kind of tidbits of real society I come across that I can use to build my characters or direct the tornado that a story always feels like to me while being created.  That is a true "run-on" sentence but I tend to just let my mind trail along in blogs (see winterbfx@blogger.com) so you get to see how I think and create.

Incidentally, I just interviewed a State Senator to get more insight into my main character's work life and boss.  In a matter of 30 minutes, I had to give up my idea of what a politician was and how they live their lives and listen to the 63 year old man in front of me.  I learned he was quite the master at reading people (I always know when I'm being manipulated) and when he felt the question could be molded into a plug for whatever idea was close to his heart, he would mull it over and take the opportunity if he felt he could.  I figured he was really good at chess.  He was 120% more human than I thought he would be.  I expected a plastic smile, loud talk, and a fantastic dog and pony show.  Maybe he saves the fireworks for campaign time. I instead learned what he wanted to be perceived as, how his age effected his attitude about his joy in life, and the things he was proud of.  I learned how he keeps his level of humility grounded and how as a proud Republican, he doesn't mind walking on the wrong side of the tracks sometimes even though he has to pay the consequences.
I decided that from now on, if I really wanted to know about something, I'd find someone who does it or is it and interview them.
